1Prepare some okra.

Prepare a few pieces of okra. To avoid wasting food, you can use okra that is past its edible stage—overmature okra are too tough for anyone's liking.

2Make your first okra stamp.

To create your first okra stamp, cut a 1-inch long piece from the top or crown of one okra. Check out the 5-petaled flower pattern on the cut side of your okra slice.

3Create more stamps.

Create more stamps by cutting the rest of the okra into 1-inch long pieces.

Again, you can avoid wasting food by just using the top piece near the crown for stamping. Use the rest of the okra for dinner.

4Prepare the paint.

Prepare various colors of tempera or poster paint on your palette. Add some water and mix well.

If you are working with fabric, use acrylic paint or fabric paint instead.

5Dip a stamp on paint.

Dip an okra stamp in one color of paint.

6Press onto paper or fabric.

Shake off any excess or dripping paint from the okra stamp. Press the okra stamp onto paper or fabric.

7Lift the okra stamp.

Lift the okra stamp to see the flower-shaped print on the paper or fabric.

8Stamp more flower shapes.

Stamp more flower shapes using different colors of paint. To avoid the need to clean the okra stamps, designate one okra stamp for each color of paint.

Random flower prints are fun and they look lovely too.

9Make a larger flower shape.

You can also create a bigger flower by stamping several okra prints around a central one.

10Paint the details.

Paint additional details like stems and leaves using a paint brush, a q-tip, or your fingers. Floral patterns are great for making your own gift wrap paper or for decorating paper and fabric craft projects such as greeting cards, bookmarks, notebook covers, pillow covers, aprons, and more.
