Paper Angel Chain

- Paper

STEPS
1Print out the template.
Print out this angel chain template on A4 or Letter size paper.
2Cut out the template.
The printed page consists of two templates. Choose from either one and cut out the rectangular frame around the angel.
3Position the template.
Align the template along the left edge of your paper. Secure the top and bottom sides of the template onto the paper using paper clips or masking tape.
4Fold the paper accordion-style.
Using the template's width as a guide, fold your paper accordion-style (back and forth folding). A sheet of A4 or Letter size paper can be folded into 6 equal sections while a larger sheet can be folded into 8 or more sections.
5Fold or trim the excess paper.
If there's an excess section of paper after your last fold, you can either fold it or trim it off.

6Cut out the angel.
Cut the folded paper following the angel outline.
7Cut out the shape inside the halo.
Cut out the small area inside the halo as well.
8Unfold the paper.
Carefully unfold the paper to reveal a chain of angels.
9Round out the corners.
Trim off any excess paper after the last angel. You can also round out the corners of the first and last angel's gown.
10Draw details.
Draw a face on each angel and mark out the main lines for the gowns. You can also give each angel a different hairstyle.
11Trim the edges of the hair.
Trim the edges of the hair to define the new hairstyles.
12Color the angels.
Color the angels with crayons, colored pencils or colored markers.
13Decorate with glitter glue.
Add sparkle by applying glitter glue onto the halo and along the hems of the angels' gowns.
14Use your paper angel chain.
Once the glitter glue dries, you can glue your paper angel chain onto background paper to make a picture. You can also connect several chain of angels to make a long garland—a pretty neat idea for decorating your classroom!
If you used a fairly thick sheet of paper, you can actually make your chain of angels stand. Simply place them on a table or flat surface and position the two outer angels at an angle.
More Ideas
Add angel wings.
Cut out a pair of wings for each angel out of white crepe paper or any thin sheet of paper. Glue behind each angel after Step 13.
You can also cut out cloud shapes from white construction paper or cardstock for the angels to stand on.
Try a different way of creating hair.
Choose the angel template without hair so that you come up with a chain of angels with no hair or short hair. Cut out different hair shapes or styles from colored paper and glue them onto the angel's heads after Step 9.
With this method, you can actually create hair using yarn or raffia, then glue them onto the angel's heads. However, when gluing heavier materials, make sure to create your chain of angels from thicker paper.
