Paper Cup Shakers

Supplies Needed
- Two small paper cups
- Rice, beans, jingle bells or small coins
- Crepe paper
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brush
- Scissors
- Masking tape
- Glue stick
- Glue gun
STEPS
1Prepare the paper cups.
Prepare two small paper cups of the same size. Wash and dry them thoroughly if they have previously been used.
2Place some rice or beans.
Fill one paper cup halfway full with rice or beans. If you prefer to use non-edible materials, place several jingle bells or coins inside the paper cup.
3Glue the two cups together.
Glue the two paper cups together at the lip. Use a strong glue like white glue, tacky glue or a glue gun.
4Reinforce with masking tape.
After the glue dries and you feel the joint needs to be reinforced, wrap masking tape around the lip of both cups.
5Prime your shaker.
Paint the entire shaker with white acrylic paint. White acrylic paint serves as the primer—it covers any prints on the container and prepares it for the final coat of paint.
6Paint your shaker.
Use acrylic paint or poster paint to decorate your shaker. You can go for one solid color or paint simple patterns like stripes, dots or swirls. Paint an entire picture, if you like!
7Add some streamers.
Cut 3 or more strips of crepe paper, each around ½" to ¾" wide and 12" long. Glue one end of each crepe paper strip at the top of the shaker to create streamers.
8Use your shaker.
Once the glue dries, you can start making noise with your shaker.
