Ancient Egyptian Collar
Craft an easy ancient Egyptian collar or necklace out of a paper plate. Wear it as part of an Egyptian costume together with our DIY Egyptian bracelet, Pharaoh headdress, and Egyptian headband.

- Large paper plate (9" or 10")
- Poster paint or acrylic paint (gold, red, blue)
- Paint brushes
- Scissors
STEPS
1Draw a circle on the plate.
Place a large paper plate with the bottom side facing up. To create an opening for the neck, find a round object to trace (about 4½ to 6 inches in diameter). Place it at the center of the paper plate and move it upwards until it is about an inch from the top edge of the plate. Trace around the object to mark the circle.
2Cut a slit.
Cut a vertical slit from the top edge of the plate to the round outline.
3Cut out the circle.
Proceed to cut along the round outline.
4Try on the collar.

5Make adjustments if needed.
If the opening is too small, trim the ends of the collar and/or widen the circle.
6Paint the collar.
Paint the plate's entire bottom side with gold poster paint or acrylic paint.
7Paint short strokes.
Egyptian collars are usually made up of rows of colored beads. To simulate this effect, paint short strokes to form each row or layer of "beads". The strokes need not be perfectly uniform. You can even finger paint or use a cotton swab to apply paint.
8Complete a row.
Continue painting short strokes of color until you have completed a row.
9Paint more rows.
Paint more rows of colors until you have decorated the entire collar.
10Wear the collar.
