1Find a glass jar.

Scout around for a squat or round glass jar to recycle into a candle holder. Wash and dry it well.

2Tear red tissue paper.

Tear red tissue paper into small pieces.

3Glue a piece of red tissue.

Dilute one part white glue or clear liquid glue with one part water. Dip a piece of red tissue paper into the glue mixture.

Shake off any excess glue mixture and place the tissue onto the outside of the glass jar. Use your finger or a paint brush to smoothen the edges of the tissue.

4Glue more tissue.

Continue dipping and gluing pieces of red tissue onto the glass jar, overlapping the pieces along the edges.

5Set aside to dry.

You can let the tissue paper go over the jar's mouth. Once you have covered the entiree jar with tissue, set it jar aside to dry.

6Trim the excess tissue.

Once dry, trim off the excess tissue along the jar's mouth.

7Paint the jar's mouth.

Use undiluted black acrylic paint or black permanent marker to make a black border along the jar's mouth.

8Decorate the jar.

Paint Chinese characters or Chinese-inspired images (e.g. dragon or yin/yang symbol) around the jar using black acrylic paint or a black permanent marker. You can make a light sketch of the characters prior to painting.
