Masquerade Mask
Create your own masquerade mask for Halloween, Mardi Gras or any costume party. This craft includes printable mask templates plus lots of creative mask decorating ideas.

Supplies Needed
- A4 or Letter size cardstock
- Poster paint or crayons
- Scissors
- White glue
- Paint brush
- Dowel or disposable chopsticks
- Feathers
- Glitter glue
- Glue gun (optional)
- Decorative materials: sequins, rhinestones, ribbons, crepe paper strips, puffy paint, aluminum foil, etc.
STEPS
1Print out the mask template.
Choose from any of these Masquerade and Mardi Gras Mask templates. Some of our Superhero Mask templates can work as masquerade masks as well. Print out your chosen mask on A4 or Letter size cardstock.
2Modify the mask shape.
As an option, you can modify the shape of the mask before cutting it out. Draw an outline of your ideal mask shape.
3Cut out the mask.
Cut out the mask, including the eye holes.
4Draw lines on the mask.
If you plan to make a two-toned or multi-colored mask, it is helpful to lightly draw the lines on your mask.
5Color the mask.
Color the mask with crayons or colored markers. You can also paint it with tempera or poster paint.
6Decorate the mask.
Once the paint dries, decorate the mask with sequins, rhinestones, feathers, puffy paint, glitter glue and other notions. Make your mask as fabulous as you like.
7Prepare the handle.
Find a long handle for your mask like a wooden dowel or a wooden chopstick. Paint the handle or wrap it in fabric ribbon, if you like.
8Glue the handle.
Glue the handle at the back of the mask. You can either glue it in the middle or on the side.
9Add accents.
Complete your mask by gluing some feathers, curly ribbons, crepe paper strips, pipe cleaner and other materials to accent the handle or sides of your mask.
More Ideas
Make a craft foam mask.
For a sturdier mask, trace the mask template onto craft foam. Cut out and decorate the foam mask following the steps above.
Other materials that can be used as accents besides feathers include strips of fabric, colorful paper, pipe cleaners, or even aluminum foil. For this mask, I slightly crumpled up strips of aluminum foil and gathered them together at the base. The trailing material at the sides are curled fabric ribbons.
Layer two masks.
Combine any two mask templates to come up with a unique effect. To make this butterfly mask, I used masquerade mask templates 1 and 3. I traced template 1 onto pink felt while template 3 was traced onto purple craft foam.
The butterfly mask was decorated with pink crepe paper strips on the sides and a pair of antenne was easily made from pipe cleaner.

These large butterfly templates are ready-to-color and can also be used to make paper butterfly masks. Color and cut out the template before cutting out a pair of eyeholes and gluing on a craft stick at the back.
