1Prepare a paper plate.

Start out with a paper plate. Any size will do.

2Mark the ends of the web.

Use a pencil to mark the ends of your spider web at the edges of your paper plate.

3Cut slits.

Cut a ½-inch long slit on each marked point.

4Paint the paper plate.

Paint your paper plate with tempera or poster paint. If your plate is glossy or waxy, use acrylic paint instead. Black, purple, and orange are popular colors for Halloween but you can choose any color you like. Let the paint dry completely.

5Cut yarn.

Cut four or more long strands of white yarn or string. Mine are about 3 feet long.

6Tape a strand of yarn.

Tape a strand of yarn at the back of the plate. Wedge the yarn through one of the slits on the plate. Gently pull the string so that it is stretched taut.

7Bring the yarn across the front.

Next, bring the yarn across the front of the plate and wedge it through one of the slits. Pull the string taut as you do this.

8Wrap the yarn around the plate.

Bring the yarn around the back. Wedge it through one of the slits as you bring it once more to the front of the plate.

9Insert through one slit.

Just like in Step 7, you need to insert the yarn through one of the slits on the plate before bringing it again towards the back.

10Continue to wrap the yarn.

Slowly build your spider web by wrapping the yarn across and around the plate as shown in Steps 7 to 9.

11Fix the end of the yarn in place.

Once the yarn runs out, tie its end around any of the crisscrossing strands at the back of the plate. Another option is to just tape it to the back of the plate.

12Start with another strand of yarn.

Tape another strand of yarn at the back of the plate.

13Continue buiding the spider web.

Wrap the yarn around the plate as shown in the steps above. Note that you can pass the slits on the paper plate more than once. Tape or tie the end of the yarn at the back of the paper plate.

Continue building your spider web by adding more strands of yarn, wrapping them around the plate as you did with the previous strands. I completed my web using four 3 ft-long strands of yarn.

14Add a handle.

If you want hang your spider web, attach a length of yarn at the back of the paper plate. You can either tape it directly onto the back of the plate or tie it around any of the crisscrossing strands of yarn.

15Make some spiders.

Make a spider by drawing one or by crafting any of these cute spiders:

• Paper Spider
• Pom-pom Spider

If you drew a spider, cut it out and glue it onto the web. Position the pompom spider or paper spider on the web by positioning the legs in between the strands of yarn.
