1Download the star template.

You can either use pre-cut stars or maker your own.

a.)  Pre-cut stars - get pre-cut paper or foam stars from a craft store, then proceed to Step 10.

b.)  Make your own stars - go to our printable stars page. Choose the last printable—Fold & Cut Stars (1¼- and 2-inch Stars).

2Print out the star template.

Print out the file on different colors of A4 or Letter size cardstock. For a 4th of July necklace, I printed out mine on red, white and blue cardstock.

3Cut out the columns.

Cut out the four columns on the template.

4Fold below the star.

Take one column. Fold it along the horizontal line just below the star. This first fold defines the size of the succeeding folds.

5Flip and fold.

Flip the paper over, then fold up the star. This fold should be the same size as the first fold.

6Fold the entire column.

Flip again, then fold. Continue this back-and-forth folding until you've folded the entire length of the paper.

7Cut out the star.

While keeping the paper folded, cut out along the outline of the star.

8Count the stars.

Check out how many stars you made. The large column yields 5 stars while the smaller column makes 7 stars.

9Make more stars.

Fold and cut out the rest of the print-outs to come up with more stars.

To make one necklace, you will need around 6-15 large stars and the same number of small stars.

10Punch holes.

Punch a pair of holes at the center of each big star.

11Cut drinking straws.

Cut drinking straws into 1¼" to 1½" long pieces.

12Prepare the string.

Cut a 30-inch length of string. Make a knot about 2-3 inches from one end—the knot must be large enough to stop the stars and drinking straw pieces from going through.

Another option for preventing the stars and drinking straws from going through the knot is to use a button. String the button all the way until it touches the knot.

13String the pieces together.

String a drinking straw all the way to the string's knot. Next, string a star through one hole and out the other hole. Move the star along the string until it touches the drinking straw.

14String more pieces.

String the drinking straws and stars alternately until you've filled the entire string. A 30" long string will need about 15 stars and 15 drinking straw pieces.

15Tie the ends of the string together.

Tie the ends of the string together, right below the button. Trim the excess length of string.

16Arrange the stars.

Position the stars so that all of them are in front while the drinking straws are at the back.

17Glue the small stars.

Glue a small star at the center of each big star.
