1Pile 6 to 8 layers of tissue paper.

To make a single flower, cut tissue paper into 6 to 8 rectangular sheets, each about 7 inches wide and 11 inches long. You can use a single color or different colors of tissue paper.

Pile the sheets together, aligning them on all four sides.

2Fold on one short side.

While keeping all sheets piled and aligned, make a ¾-inch fold on one short side. This will define the width of the folds in the succeeding steps.

3Fold back-and-forth.

Following the width of the previous fold, continue to fold the tissue paper accordion-style (back-and-forth folding).

4Trim after the last fold.

Trim off any excess paper after the last fold.

5Round out the ends.

Round out both ends of the folded paper.

6Tie around the middle.

Tie a pipe cleaner tightly around the middle of the folded paper.

7Spread open the folds on one side.

Spread open one side of the folded paper so that it opens up like a fan.

8Separate the topmost layer.

To start creating the petals, carefully separate the topmost layer of tissue and move it away as far away from the rest.

9Separate the rest of the layers.

Work your way one layer at a time until you've separated all the layers on one side of the pipe cleaner.

10Open the folds on the opposite side.

Next, open up the folds on the opposite side like a fan.

11Separate the layers of tissue.

Separate the layers of tissue just like you did in Steps 8 and 9.

12Arrange the petals.

Do the finishing touches by further arranging the petals so that the flower is nice and round and fluffy.

13Add a stem.

Add a stem by wrapping the ends of the pipe cleaner around a wooden dowel, pencil or chopstick. Further wrap a tape around the pipe cleaner to hold it in place.

If you wish to hang the flower instead, cut a length of ribbon or string then tie one end around the pipe cleaner.
