1Choose the shape of your glasses.

Choose the shape of your eyeglasses from any of the options below. Star-shaped ones are the classic choice but any of the other frames can be decorated into an awesome pair of Fourth of July glasses.

Print out the non-colored version of the glasses on A4 or Letter size heavy cardstock.

The star-shaped eyeglasses also has a colored 4th of July version that you can print out. If you go with this option, skip the coloring step and proceed to Step 4.

2Decorate with stars and stripes.

Decorate your chosen eyeglasses template with stars and stripes. Do one or a combination of these ideas:

a.)  Draw - draw stars and stripes with a pencil, then color with markers or colored pencils.

b.)  Paint - besides using a paint brush, you can paint stripes with a q-tip, a plastic fork, or even your fingers. Prevent your painted eyeglasses from curling at the edges by adding a minimal amount of water or none at all to tempera or poster paint.

c.)  Stamp - dip the length of a pencil or the edge of a piece of thick cardboard in a tray or plate of white or red paint. Press the painted edge onto the eyeglasses template to stamp on some stripes.

d.)  Glue - this option can be done after Step 7, when the eyeglasses has been cut and assembled. Cut out strips of red paper or tape. Glue or stick them onto the eyeglasses as stripes.

Punch small stars from white paper using a star craft punch. You can also use star-shaped sequins or stickers. Glue or stick the stars onto the eyeglasses frame. Cut away the areas on each star that go over the edges of the frame.

3Add glitter.

If you want sparkly eyeglasses, apply some red, blue, or silver glitter glue. You can put glitter glue on certain sections or cover the entire frame with it. Note that too much glitter glue can make your paper glasses curl at the edges, especially if the paper is not thick enough.

4Cut out the template.

Once the glitter glue dries, cut out all three template pieces.

5Cut out the eye holes.

Cut out the eyeholes as well.

6Crease the side tabs.

The front frame has a pair of side tabs, each bordered by a dashed line. Fold the side tabs towards the back. Unfold.

7Glue the arms onto the front frame.

Glue the straight end of each arm (the part that extends over the ears) onto a side tab.

8Add lenses.

Make the lenses out of blue or red cellophane paper. Cut a pair to a size and shape that covers each eye hole. Glue the lenses at the back of the frame.

9Glue some accents.

Glue additional accents, if you like. Large foam or fabric stars on a pair of cat-eye glasses look funky! Rhinestones and sequins can be added for an extra-fab eyewear.
