1Prepare some glass jars.

Collect some glass or clear plastic jars. Wash them thoroughly, remove any paper labels, and let them dry.

2Prepare the glass paint outliner.

To make the outlines on your stained glass jars, you will need to use black or gold glass paint outliner or simulated liquid leading. These can be purchased from craft stores or from online retail stores.

You can also make a homemade version using acrylic paint and white glue. Simply mix two parts white glue with one part acrylic paint in a squeeze bottle (a small nozzle works best). Mix thoroughly by stirring with a stick or small spoon.

3Plan your stained glass design.

Think about a design for your stained glass jar. You can make a sketch on a sheet of paper or draw the design on the jar using a washable marker or white board marker. You can also just go directly to Step 4 without any sketches.

4Apply the glass paint outliner.

Apply the glass paint outliner on your jar.

5Let the lines dry.

Continue making the outlines until you've achieved the desired design. Allow the outlines to dry completely.

6Erase the marker outlines.

Once the glass paint outliner lines are completely dry, you can erase the white board marker or washable marker lines you made on your jar in Step 3. Use a cotton swab to remove the marker outlines.

7Prepare the glass paint.

To color your jar, you will need different colors of transparent glass paint or glass stain paint.

You can also try making homemade glass paint using white glue, food coloring and liquid dishwash soap. This homemade version is water-based, therefore the paint will not be as permanent as the commercial ones.

8Paint the jar.

Apply the glass paint inside the outlines. If you made the homemade recipe, you may notice that the paint recedes or bubbles may appear on some areas. Simply paint over the bubbles.
